Kathy Michelle Chacón is a Salvadoran-American film journalist, programmer, and creative from California’s Inland Empire. A Gates Cambridge Scholar, she earned an MPhil in Film and Screen Studies from the University of Cambridge, where her research examined how women filmmakers challenge dominant cultural and cinematic narratives through genre and folklore. Since 2022, she has written for publications including A.V. Club and Paste Magazine. Alongside her work in film, she serves as a youth mentor in Southern California’s nonprofit sector, supporting at-promise communities through intentional mentorship and programming. Drawing on educational and community engagement experience across the United Kingdom, Japan, and Spain, her film programming and educational work are guided by a commitment to creating culturally rigorous, socially responsive spaces that amplify underrepresented voices and foster critical engagement across diverse audiences.
